a team fell race in Northumberland
This page contains information and rules for the event.
Registration for teams arriving prior race day will take place the previous evening. Teams arriving on the day may register at Race Control no later than 30 minutes before race start.
At registration each team will be issued with an orienteering card and race numbers. Team numbers must be visible and worn by each team member on the back of their rucksack. Failure to do so at any stage may result in a time penalty.
The race will be a staggered start with 5 minutes between each start group. All teams must be at the start at least 10 minutes before their allocated start time or they may not get away on time thereby incurring a time penalty. Each team must hand the tear-off part of their orienteering card to the Start Marshal.
Competitors taking part in the event must compete as a team throughout and should at no time distance themselves from one another. Marshals on the course will stop any team they consider to be spread out too far.
In the event of a team member being unable to continue through illness or injury, another team member must go to the nearest checkpoint where assistance from the Marshals should be sought. The third team member must remain with the casualty until assistance arrives. The Checkpoint Marshal will need to know:
On no account must a competitor be left alone on the course. If need be other competitors must assist the casualty. Members of the Northumberland National Park Search & Rescue Team will be on standby around the course to assist in the evacuation of casualties. In addition, CHAOS Club vehicles will be located at Uswayford and Bleakhope. Competitors wishing to retire may do so at these points.
For safety reasons, if in the opinion of a Marshal, two members of a team become unfit to continue for any reason, he or she may immediately withdraw the team from the competition.
Should weather conditions render the competition unsafe, the race organisers reserve the right to withdraw teams from the event at any stage and prohibit further progress.
See The Route
page for further details.
Each checkpoint will be staffed by Race Marshalls who will be in radio contact with Race Control.
In all cases the decision of a check point Marshal will be final.
