Information and Rules

The following pages contain rules and information for the event.

The Cheviot 2000 Team Fell Race is organised by Northumbria Police CHAOS Club and is staged in the Cheviot Hills in the Northumberland National Park, starting in the Harthope Valley.

The 23 mile route is circular and traverses eleven fells of over 2000 feet asl and crosses some of the most wild and remote parts of North Northumberland - one wrong turn and you can end up in Scotland!

The severity of the event invariably depends upon the weather, before and during the event, and it is not uncommon for competitors to become stuck in thigh deep mud trenches whilst attempting to negotiate the course.

The course demands a high degree of physical fitness, determination and stamina. Competence in all weather navigational techniques, together with an understanding of first aid and basic mountain rescue procedures is essential. Each competitor must understand and practice the Country Code. A blatant disregard will incur a time penalty.

Competitors are only allowed to compete in teams of three and not as individuals. To be placed in the competition, all three must finish the course together. If a member withdraws for any reason the remaining two may be allowed to continue at the discretion of the race organisers.

A full copy of the race rules and information specific to each years event will be sent to each team captain following sucessful application. In the event that the information contained on this site is different, the printed material will take precedence.
